Common visa to be issued for ASEAN passport holders

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawar said recently that ASEAN countries are beginning to plan out common visa system for countries in the region.

This plan is going to be put into reality in 2015, together with the setup of the ASEAN Community. “There should be special efforts for this plan to become a reality because each country has different visa issuance regime”, said Mr Natalegawar.

ASEAN visa is to some extent similar to that of Europe, accordingly citizens from a country outside of the region who have ASEAN visa in hand could travel to any member country. For eg., a person who holds in hand Vietnam visa could travel to Thailand with this Vietnam visa without any hassle or trouble.

It would take time for ASEAN countries to adjust their visa issuance process before this common visa is put into reality. This plan is no longer an idea but has been put into discussion already.

In order to get visa to Vietnam, you are required:

- The original passport valid at least 6 months, 1 left page to stamp the visa for Vietnam

- 2 Vietnam visa photos  sizes 4*6cm or 2*2 inch

- Credit card to make a payment online for the approval fee and cash to pay for stamping fee upon arrival airport.

-  For Vietnam visa on arrival applicants (get Vietnam visa online), you MUST travel by AIR to Vietnam to get the Vietnam visa stamped at arrival airport

- To submit the following information:

1. Your full name (exactly as in your passport)

2. Date of birth

3. Gender (male/female)

4. Nationality

5. Passport Number

6.. Date of expiration of Passport

7. Arrival date / Exit date

8. Flight details/reference

9. Port of arrival – Hanoi/Noi Bai, Ho Chi Minh/Tan Son Nhat or Danang

10. Purpose of your visit (Vacation/Business/Visit family)

Some things you should know before applying Vietnam Visa online

1. A Vietnam Tourist Visa will allow visitors to enter and exit Vietnam at Hanoi, HCMC and Danang airports. We recommend you to fly with  Vietnam Airlines to these 3 airports.
2. As per Immigration policy, only citizens of certain countries (see excemption list) can visit Vietnam without a Vietnam Visa, and for a limited time period only. The rest are required to obtain a Visa for Vietnam before boarding a plane. For citizens from Asia, the Americas, Europe, South Africa & Australia it is easy to get a Vietnam Visa Approval Letter.
