Common visa to be issued for ASEAN passport holders

Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawar said recently that ASEAN countries are beginning to plan out common visa system for countries in the region.

This plan is going to be put into reality in 2015, together with the setup of the ASEAN Community. “There should be special efforts for this plan to become a reality because each country has different visa issuance regime”, said Mr Natalegawar.

ASEAN visa is to some extent similar to that of Europe, accordingly citizens from a country outside of the region who have ASEAN visa in hand could travel to any member country. For eg., a person who holds in hand Vietnam visa could travel to Thailand with this Vietnam visa without any hassle or trouble.

It would take time for ASEAN countries to adjust their visa issuance process before this common visa is put into reality. This plan is no longer an idea but has been put into discussion already.

The first service offers the Vietnam visa approval letter online (or approval code) after one or two working days (or only 4 hours in rush cases); the second one offers car(s) for picking up and bringing you from Vietnam arrival airport (Noi Bai in Hanoi, Danang in Danang province, or Tan Son Nhat in Hochiminh City) to your expected Hotel; And finally, the third or the last one provides you with the service in which the company’s staff will complete all the check-in procedures at the arrival airport in Vietnam on your behalf; you have to do nothing but to sit and wait to get your passport back with visa stamped on it.

Each of those 3 services individually might sound familiar to you, but when they are put together in one package, it becomes something very efficient for clients since the final price is much lower, and the time for seeking, selecting and booking each service is saved at least a half. Foreign tourists allowed staying over 1 day in Vietnam after visa expires

Normally foreign tourists visiting Vietnam or Vietnamese overseas repatriating the country could only stay within the validity time of their Vietnam visas. However, in order to facilitate tourists to Vietnam, the Vietnam Immigration Department (A18) allows stay of over one day in the country for them after the expiration date of their visa Vietnam.

As regards the validity time, on the other hand, for different reasons of security, the A18 does advise tourists to apply for 1 or 3 months (single or multiple entry) visa rather than longer stay. If they would like to stay longer, they’d better have their Vietnam visas renewed or extended. Yet, the procedures for getting their Vietnam visa approved is not changed much.

There’s something one should be reminded that if the tourists to Vietnam stay more than 2 days or more in Vietnam (from the expiration date cited in their Vietnam visa pre-approved letter), they will be punished by the Vietnam Immigration Department: from $30. Therefore, in order to avoid this unexpected case, tourists should make a good plan of when to enter Vietnam before applying for visa to Vietnam since the visa’s validity only begins from the date cited in the visa approval letter rather than their actual arrival date.

For more details, kindly contact the Vietnam Immigration Department.
