How to find the correct nationality between China - Hong Kong and British National Overseas (BNO) when apply Vietnam Visa

This will help you to avoid any troubles for the trip to Vietnam.

At present, in Vietnam Immigration system, the nationality will based on the country code. For example, China has the country code as CHN and Australia as AUS. 

When apply Vietnam Visa, to make sure all information is correct, please look again on your passport to know the correct country code and nationality - In this post, we just mention about how to choose the correct nationality for China, Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders.

- At present time, Hong Kong is the Special Administrative Region of China, therefore on the passport, the country code will show as CHN.
Please choose Hong Kong - CHN if you hold Hong Kong passport and the country code is CHN (The passport number normally starts with letter K).
*** When the Visa letter is done, the letter will show your nationality as China or Special Administrative Region of China.
- For Hong Kong citizens, who hold the old passport with the country code as HKG (passport number just includes number), please choose Hong Kong - HKG when apply for the Visa.
*** After your application is approved, the letter will show your nationality as Hong Kong.
- In case you are living in Hong Kong, but you hold British passport and the passport show the country code as GBR and the nationality as British National (Overseas). You will choose the Nationality as British or United Kingdom when apply for the Vietnam Visa. This passport will have 9 numbers.
*** The letter will show the nationaity as United Kingdom after it is approved.
Please note: 
* Free Visa Vietnam for United Kingdom passport:
Free 15 days Vietnam Visa is just applied for United Kingdom passport holder. People who hold British National (overseas) - BNO passport can not get Free Vietnam Visa.
* eVisa Vietnam:
For eVisa Vietnam, eVisa is available for United Kingdom citizens, not available for British National (Overseas)- BNO passport holder. 
Citizens of China mainland can apply for eVisa Vietnam (not applied for Chinese citizen who hold ePassport). But Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China can not apply for eVisa Vietnam.
 
British National (Overseas) -BNO and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China is recommeded to apply for Vietnam Visa on arrival.
