The Michelin Guide calls Hanoi "the city of lakes" and suggests spending 48 hours here visiting historical sites. 
Michelin Guide rates Hanoi as a vibrant capital, blending history, culture, sophistication and modernity. Hanoi's streets are crowded, filled with motorbikes and street vendors. But besides that, Hanoi has quiet lake spaces and ancient temples that bring peace. The old neighborhood, tree-shaded streets, colonial architecture and sidewalk cafes are must-see places for tourists.

The 48-hour experience in Hanoi was suggested below : 

Day 1: Taste of tradition and history
Morning
Start your day with a leisurely stroll through the streets of the Guom lake. Enjoying a cup of coffee, try Vietnam egg coffee of Giang coffee is a suggestion. This is the traditional and famous coffee center in Hanoi.
Otherwise, choose classic egg coffee at the sidewalk shop of Sofitel Metropole Legend Hanoi hotel, one of the places with the oldest history in the capital. This is a hotel built in 1901, offering a lavish and luxurious experience.

 

Noon
The ideal lunch restaurant is Bun Cha Huong Lien, Hai Ba Trung district, also on the Bib Gourmand list to enjoy "Hanoi's specialties including grilled meat and vermicelli".
This is a restaurant once visited by former US President Obama. In the restaurant, there is still a photo of Mr. Obama enjoying dinner with culinary expert Anthony Bourdain here during his visit to Vietnam in 2016. The restaurant's menu has an Obama combo including seafood spring rolls, a special bowl of vermicelli and two bottles of rice noodles. Ha Noi beer. These are the dishes the former US president ordered.

Afternoon
Explore French colonial architecture while wandering old streets such as Tran Hung Dao, Ly Thuong Kiet and Hai Ba Trung. Visit the Vietnamese Women's Museum or Hoa Lo Prison for a glimpse of history.

Evening
Dine at 1946 Cua Bac restaurant, in an old yellow-green villa. This is also another restaurant that received the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand in 2023. Two typical dishes to enjoy are fried crab hotpot and porridge.

Day 2: Parks and cultural heritage
Morning
Start your day at Thong Nhat Park, one of the large parks in central Hanoi. Coming here in the morning, you will enjoy a fun and bustling atmosphere when local people participate in many collective activities and play sports.

Lunch
Lunch at the Michelin Selected restaurant Azabu on the 2nd floor of the Hotel du Parc. Lunch with a premium menu à la carte (A la carte), famous dishes are sushi and sashimi. This will be a culinary experience that helps guests have a relaxing time in a restaurant with good service and a friendly and professional operating team.

Afternoon
Explore the area southeast of Hoan Kiem Lake, to check in the Opera House, one of the city's symbolic buildings, with ancient French architecture. Next to it is the National Museum of History, which houses a rich collection of artifacts about Vietnamese history.

 

Dinner
End the trip with dinner at Habakuk, a Bib Gourmand restaurant famous for its beautifully presented dishes and reasonable prices. If you have more money, try Hibana by Koki, a one-Michelin-star teppanyaki restaurant, where visitors can enjoy the talent of chef Hiroshi Yamaguchi at a restaurant with only 14 seats in the basement of Capella Hanoi Hotel.

Night
