The law consists of 9 chapters and 55 articles, for foreigners who have many passports only use a passport to enter, exit, transit and residence in Vietnam. This regulation aims to avoid complexity arising in foreign, criminal and civil relations, and ensure the correct state statistics.

Under the law, non-transferable visa for purposes ensures the management and overcomes foreigners who entered Vietnam for tourist purpose and then worked in projects as in the last time.

Vietnam visas for foreigners for working purpose has maximum validity of 2 years; visas for foreigners who enter Vietnam to invest and work as lawyers in Vietnam has maximum validity of 5 years to ensure the integrity of the legal system.

The new law extended objects for permanent residence for scientists, experts and stateless persons who were staying continuously in Vietnam before 2000.
