Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Directive 08/CT-TTg dated February 23 on comprehensive, fast and sustainable tourism development in the coming time.

In the Directive, The Vietnamese Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Public Security to preside over research, propose and apply "Exit and entry procedures through facial recognition (FaceID) and electronic passport (E-Passport)" to create convenience, quick for tourists. At the same time, consider piloting the issuance of border visas on the basis of on-site personnel approval for international tourists.

The Ministry of Public Security is also assigned to front over and coordinate with relevant agencies to study and expand the unilateral visa exemption list:
- Pilot visa exemption for short-term periods (6 months to 12 months) for tourists from a number of large-scale, high-spending markets
- Piloting long-term, multiple-entry visas (12 months to 36 months) to attract market segments of high-end tourists and retirees with high spending ability from a number of target markets such as Europe, Northeast Asia, North America, India and some countries in the Middle East.

Thanks to the easy on entry procedures, Vietnam can compete with Thailand in term of priority of foreign travellers. Faciliating on Visa policies and Entry procedures will be a hit to promote and develop Vietnam tourism, make a chance for Vietnam to welcome more and more travellers.

This proposal would be expected to apply in the end of this year 2024.
