This means until July 31, foreigners are allowed to stay in Vietnam without doing any paperwork, after July 31 foreigners could exit the country and it would not be considered overstay. This is a goodwill move of the government aiming to help those stuck in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Also, foreigners who entered the country before March 1 are considered for the extension if they are able to prove that they could not exit Vietnam because of the pandemic. Those people are required to submit an official diplomatic note by their diplomatic mission in Vietnam together with a translation into Vietnamese.
Those who have documents by the Vietnamese authorities proving that they have undergone quarantine or treatment for COVID-19 and/or are stuck here due to the reason(s) out of their control are also eligible for the automatic extension.
Until now, Vietnam has still suspended entry for all foreign passport holders. Currently, only Vietnamese nationals, foreigners on diplomatic or official business, and highly skilled workers are allowed to enter the country and those people have to still undergo medical checks and 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
