For travelling, the most tired thing is to apply for visa. Although Vietnam opens more in issuing visa, it is considered quite strict to neighboring countries. Therefore, Vietnam is considering visa exemption for tourists from nine countries.

According to index of Henley & Partners in terms of visa limitation, Vietnam is ranked 81 because it only allows visa exemption for 47 nationalities, while Singapore in rank 5, Malaysia in rank 8 and Hong Kong in rank 15.

Vietnam annually welcomes 400,000 tourists, in which have ten thousands of international arrivals. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Ky, General Director of Vietravel said it is necessary to remove or ease visa procedures. He gave an example that before exempting Japan from visa, Japanese tourists came to Vietnam lower than American ones, but now Japan has become one of main tourist markets of Vietnam.

Propose to exempt 9 countries from visa

Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism proposed to exempt visa for tourists from France, German, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, India and Canada. Tourism Advisory Council has recently agreed in written notice for this proposal.

At present, Vietnam is applying visa exemption in 30 days for ASEAN countries (except Brunei in 14 days) and in period of 15 days for Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Japan, South Korea and Russia.
Thus, international visitors to Vietnam have significantly increased. Statistics from the General Administration of Tourism showed that the total number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2014 reached more than 5.47 million, up 12% compared to the same period in 2013, nearly 42% of visitors from visa exemption countries. Particularly tourists from Russia increased by 27%; tourists from South Korea and Japan maintain superior growth and two leading tourism markets of Vietnam.

In addition, international tourists to Vietnam also bring great income. In 2013, Vietnam welcomed 7.57 million international tourist arrivals, with average spending of USD 1200-2500 / guests bring USD billions in revenue for the industry.
