What is Vietnam E-visa? Things you need to know about Vietnam E-visa

With the rapid development of the internet, the implementation of administrative and legal procedures on an online platform has become necessary. Thanks to that, the application of technology in management has also become a trend in many countries, including Vietnam. This is the reason why E-Visa was born, creating a solid foundation in the management of immigration-related issues. Helping this process run smoother and more conveniently.

1. What is Vietnam E-Visa?

E-visa (short for Electronic Visa) or also known as electronic visa, is a type of visa issued to foreigners through an electronic transaction system. This is a modern and convenient solution implemented by the Vietnamese Government to attract international tourists and promote tourism development.

Although the concept of “E-visa” has not been officially defined in the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam and related guiding documents, E-visa is essentially a legal visa, acting as a “license” allowing foreigners to enter and travel domestically.

2. How long is the Vietnam E-Visa valid for?

From August 15, 2023, Vietnam's electronic visa (E-visa) policy has been officially adjusted with positive changes. Bringing many benefits to international visitors.

➤ The most notable point of this adjustment is that the E-visa duration has been increased to a maximum of 90 days, compared to 30 days as before. This allows tourists to comfortably explore Vietnam for a longer period of time, without having to worry about visa extensions.

➤ In addition, E-visa is now also valid for single or multiple entries. Visitors can choose the type of visa that suits their needs. It helps save costs and time for those who plan to return to Vietnam many times.

3. Who can apply for an electronic visa to Vietnam?

The Government has just issued Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP dated August 14, 2023 on the application of electronic visas for citizens of countries and territories; international border gates allowing foreigners to enter and exit with electronic visas.

Accordingly, the Government decided to issue electronic visas to citizens of all countries and territories.

4. Conditions for being granted a Vietnam e-visa

  • Foreigners currently abroad who need to enter Vietnam (not granted to foreigners temporarily residing in Vietnam).
  • Electronic visas are only used to enter and exit through border gates on the list permitted by the Vietnamese Government.
  • Foreigners subject to the provisions of Clauses 1, 2, 3 and 4, Article 8 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam. Foreigners entering, exiting, transiting and residing in Vietnam do not apply for an electronic visa but through the inviting or sponsoring agency or organization, submit a visa application to the competent agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Passport valid for 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages, not erased or modified.
  • Not falling into the cases of not being allowed to enter according to the provisions of Article 21 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.
